Mulcahy Park

Mulcahy Park on the Waterford Road has a modern and large playground. It is open all year round and is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel. This public park is free to use. The park is an ideal location for kids to cycle & walk. It also has a riverside walk which is securely fenced off for child safety.

Marlfield Lake

Nature lovers may also want to visit Marlfield Lake on the outskirts of Clonmel to see the ducks & swans. Marlfield Lake is only a 5 minute drive from the hotel. This is a beautiful scenic area where you can take in the beautiful sights of the premier county.

Hotshots Bowling Alley

Hotshots Bowling Alley on the inner relief road is open year round until late at night. Aside from bowling it also offers a range of facilities for children including kids soft play zone, arcade games, pool & air hockey. Book a bowling lane for an hour for only €37. The Apple Farm

Only a 5 minute drive from Talbot Hotel Clonmel there is a very well renowned Apple Farm. This is also a worthwhile visit. They have a collection of old Irish apple varieties, and a self-guided walk around the orchards is also possible.

Family entry is free of charge.

Parson's Green

Parson's Green open farm, caravan & camping park is located in the lush Galtee Vee valley in South Tipperary. Whether you are looking for a family day out or lots of fun activities for the kids including indoor & outdoor playgrounds, pony & trap rides, boat rides, crazy golf, pet farm & agri museum, then Parson's Green is the place for you. Pallas Hill Open Farm - The Ragg, Thurles

Pallas Hill Open Farm invites you to visit their family friendly farm. The farm offers a variety of farm animals, an adventure playground, picnic area, farm museum, activity huts and more. Horse Riding

Cahir Equestrian Centre

Located just outside the heritage town of Cahir in the south of county Tipperary, Ireland, the centre provides a wide range of equestrian services. Horse riding lessons are available for all age groups with tuition from experienced instructors; both flat work and showjumping are catered for.

There is also a floodlit all-weather outdoor arena, a cross-country course and pony trekking excursions through Cahir Park, alongside the river Suir and over equestrian farmland. All of this is amongst the magnificent scenery of the Golden Vale and bounded by the Galtee mountains, the Knockmealdown mountains and Slievenamon.

In the school holidays they run a very popular pony camp with riders grouped by experience. Specialised one day riding camps are also offered, as are birthday parties for young horse enthusiasts.

There is a sister equestrian centre in Thurles and offers unique horse riding holidays for children between the two centres with accommodation at the Thurles Equestrian Centre.

The facilities, horses and procedures are regularly checked for AIRE approval, which provides clients with the assurance that all of the highest standards established for equestrian centres in Ireland are being met.

Fethard Horse Country Experience

For the summer season visitors to Fethard Horse Country Experience have the opportunity to tour Coolmore Stud.

The tours run every Tuesday and Thursday, at 11.30 and 2.30 sharp

Sporting

Thurles is the home town of the G.A.A and is only a 40 minute drive from Talbot Hotel Clonmel. The G.A.A is the governing body for Ireland's domestic sports of Hurling and Gaelic Football. The G.A.A museum is in Thurles and well worth a visit for any ‘sport mad’ family. Semple Stadium is one of the best GAA grounds in the country which regularly plays host to some of the top matches between Munster teams and is well worth checking out with the family. Clonmel is also home to the ‘Clonmel Golf Club’ which host great practice & putting areas. The also run a great junior academy and welcome junior players.

Horse Racing

If you prefer the sport of kings there's also Horse racing in Clonmel, Limerick Junction just outside Tipperary Town and also Thurles. Between these race courses they all offer a selection of fun filled family days with either free or discounted admission for children.

There is Greyhound racing in Clonmel every Friday and Sunday night and also in Thurles every Tuesday and Saturday night. Children go free.

Rock of Cashel

Cashel is only a 20 minute drive from Talbot Hotel Clonmel and is well known for the ‘Rock of Cashel’. This was the former home of the high kings of Ireland and later an impressive cathedral-fortress. Although technically in ruins the structures themselves are still standing, including the monumental church and a number if intricately carved stone high crosses.

There's an audio-visual presentation as well (as with most Irish heritage sights) for those who like that kind of thing. 

Cahir Castle & Swiss Cottage

Cahir town is only a 10 minute drive from Clonmel and is well worth a visit with the family for a day excursion. Cahir Castle is a very well preserved Norman Castle and also the "Swiss cottage", which is a most interesting hunting lodge used by the local gentry before it was delightfully restored. A riverside walk from Cahir castle to the Swiss cottage is a great way to get a little exercise when on holiday. While on your family holiday at Talbot Hotel Clonmel this should definitely be on your to do list. Please note admission to these National Heritage sights are free on the first Wednesday of the month.

Mitchelstown Cave

This is one of the most spectacular caves in Europe, Mitchelstown Cave is located midway between Cahir & Mitchelstown just off the N8. The guided tour takes you through almost half a mile of this world famous cave, which includes three massive caverns. The formations shapes, colour & history make an enthralling visit at any time. Access to the cave is easy, along well-lit passageways.

Swiss Cottage

Located at Kilcommon Cahir (off Ardfinnan Road). A fairy-tale, rustic "cottage orne" of great charm built in the early 1800's. Its interior contains a spiral staircase and some elegantly decorated rooms.

Ormond Castle

Located in Carrick on Suir, this manor house was built in the 16th Century fronts a larger complex dating from the 14th century, Thomas Butler, the 10th Earl of Ormond added the "new" north range which became known as the Manor House to the existing buildings. They follow a typical manor house layout which includes a magnificent long gallery. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the house is the decorative plasterwork which provides the finest of early examples in Ireland.

Tipperary Arts Centre

"The Centre hosts a mixture of arts and cultural events including local, national and international visual arts, performing arts, music and literature."

South Tipperary Arts Centre in Clonmel was founded over 20 years ago to be a focal point for the arts in Clonmel and County Tipperary. The arts centre is situated in a beautiful, light-filled Modernist building near the River Suir on Nelson Street. The building houses a gallery and a spacious workshop.

Today, our vision is to be a centre of excellence for the arts in Tipperary and to create opportunities for everyone to engage with high-level arts practice. As well as presenting a range of visual arts exhibitions in our gallery space, we also host events such as music, performance, poetry readings and dance. Our studio is used for short term exhibitions & screenings, as well as for a variety of classes and workshops. It is also a rehearsal space for theatre, dance, music, and is available for meetings and seminars.

Our outreach and education work is integral to the success of the arts centre, as one of our key objectives is to engage with a wide and varied range of local people.

Sensory Garden

The Sensory Garden in Cahir is just a short 12 minute drive from Talbot Hotel Clonmel.

Located close to the towns train station this hidden gem is just a short walk from the centre of the town and is truly a lovely experience for children to enjoy.

Located on Church Street beside St. Paul's Church, the garden is a wonderful quiet space to unwind, enjoy a picnic, or relax in the sunshine. 

This sensory garden is a garden environment that is designed with the purpose of stimulating the senses. 

This stimulation occurs courtesy of plants and the use of materials that engage one’s senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. These types of gardens are popular with and beneficial to both children and adults, especially those who have sensory processing issues, including autism and other disabilities. 

The sensory Garden is open during Summer from Monday to Sunday from 9am to 7pm, and during Winter from Monday to Sunday 9am to 4pm
