Loop walks in Knockmealdowns

Clean, unspoilt environment. The natural beauty of the area is its biggest attraction to visitors.

One of Ireland’s best kept secrets. The Knockmealdown Mountainrange is uniquely situated in the most central position imaginable in the South of Ireland.

Waterford Greenway

Waterford Greenway is a spectacular 46km cycling and walking trail along an old railway line which takes you from stunning Dungarvan all the way to the quays of Ireland's oldest city (Waterford). One of the best ways to explore the greenway is by bicycle and we are facilitated by The Greenway cycle tours and bike hire companies.

Some of the attractions en-route are:

  • Dungarvan:– Breath taking views across Dungarvan Bay traveling to the town centre.
  • Ballyvoile Tunnel:-The Ballyvoile 400 metre brick-lined tunnel is as fresh as the day it was built and discreetly lit to keep it's magic.
  • Two Stone Viaducts:- The Durrow 7 arch and Kilmacthomas 8 arch viaducts are engineering marvels.
  • Mount Congreve:-These world famous gardens are directly accessible from the Greenway.up and running and we now offer a free app and a bike hire service.

The Glen of Aherlow Loop Walks

The Glen of Aherlow, Tipperary is a walkers paradise offering a variety of low level loop and mountain walks. Walking and trekking holidays are now the most sought after activity for Irish and overseas visitors to Ireland and what better way to enjoy the natural resources of mountains, rivers, lakes, forests and scenic landscape combined with fresh air and healthy exercise. All of these natural features are in abundance in the Glen of Aherlow, which makes it so attractive to walkers

Galtee walking

What did we like about the Galtee Mountains?

  • The breath-taking view of county Tipperary, Limerick and Cork
  • The high, steep and dangerous crags, cliffs and rocks
  • You can explore beautiful mountain lakes, waterfalls and rich bog life with your family (they are easy to access, located at the base of the mountain range)
  • The mountain range is less known, so you don’t have to wait in a queue to climb Galteemore (I can’t say that about Croagh Patrick), we met only a few hikers during our two trips
  • There is a small spring near the top of the mountain where the water is crystal clear. Since we didn’t bring enough water, we enjoyed drinking from the spring.

Mitchelstown Cave

Mitchelstown Cave is one of the largest and most complex cave systems in Ireland. On the guided tour you will follow ancient passageways and visit massive caverns in which you are surrounded by indescribable dripstone formations, stalactites, stalagmites and huge calcite pillars and one of Europe’s finest columns the inspiring “Tower of Babel” which stands some 9 meters in height.

Rock of Cashel

It’s huge, it’s complex, it’s iconic, there is nothing like it anywhere else in the world and it’s right here in Cashel at the heart of Tipperary. The Rock of Cashel (Carraig Phádraig), more formally St. Patrick’s Rock, it is also known as Cashel of the Kings.
