Talbot Hotel Clonmel’s Waste Management Strategy
A waste management strategy is important for the Talbot Hotel Clonmel because it reduces environmental impact, ensures compliance, saves money, engages guests and staff, boosts reputation, and supports climate goals.
Please see the steps that the Talbot Hotel Clonmel carry out:
- Waste Separation / Recycling
- All waste is separated into categories: General waste, Food waste, and Recyclables.
- Guests and staff are encouraged to use recycling bins (for paper, plastic, etc.)
- Eliminating Single-Use Plastics
- We are “consciously working toward eliminating single-use plastics” across operations.
- Use of recyclable cartons (for water) rather than plastic bottles.
- In conferences & events: Reusable glass bottles, hydration stations rather than single use bottles.
- Reducing Paper / Stationery Waste
- Stationery supplies for bedrooms, meetings, conferences are made from recycled paper.
- Use of digital documents/presentations to reduce paper waste in meetings & conferencing.
- Use of “carbon-balanced paper” for printed materials.
- Reuse & Composting
- Reusing delivery boxes via a local craftsman (rather than discarding them).
- Coffee grounds from their coffee machine are collected and offered to guests to take for compost / garden use.
- Waste Reduction in Guest Interactions
- Signage in bedrooms to encourage guest behaviour that reduces waste (e.g. using fewer towels, using key‐cards to control electricity, etc.).
- Bin signage and recycling options visible to guests (for leisure centre / function areas) to help them dispose properly.
- Sustainable Conferencing / Events
- For conference facilities: using biodegradable packaging for catering where possible.
- Encouraging digital materials, reducing printed stationary for events.
- Reusing or avoiding disposable items (e.g., reusing lanyards; reducing or reusing name tags etc.).
- Monitoring & Continual Improvement
- The Talbot Collection has a Sustainable Management Plan (2024-2029) which includes “Waste Management & Minimisation Plans”.
- We aim to set targets, track performance, and review actions annually/internally.
- Certifications & Alignment
- We are part of the Green Hospitality Programme (Ireland) which sets out environmental best practice for hospitality.
- We have an “Eco-Label Award” for environmental excellence, which means their waste, water, energy strategies are evaluated under recognised external criteria.
